Sometimes called the Hastarius, this (very) light gladiator is based on the skirmishers of the Roman Republic. Protected only by a small buckler, he had to rely on his agility to survive in the arena. He was armed with javelins and a dagger. The wolf pelt often, but by no means universally, worn by veles was meant to intimidate their opponents, although its actual impact in the ring has to be doubted. 35mm Multi-part metal gladiator & plastic base. Sculpted by Bob Naismith. Painted by Darren Linington.
